Dare to Wear Neon

For all you lucky Northern Hemisphere people, it's summer! This means longer days, louder laughter, and less clothing. It was a relatively sunny day in Cape Town so I decided to don this bright coral bikini I got while in Spain and pretend it wasn't the middle of winter. This year, it seems to be a season of opposites since both neon and monochrome are back in.

This is the perfect look for a day of lounging around some fabulous resort, cute and trendy without trying too hard- still keeping it relaxed. The coral will accentuate your summer tan and the black maxi is a good contrast to the colour to keep the outfit from being overboard. I absolutely love this bikini as it's super flattering and sturdy (i.e. it won't fall down while you demonstrate your diving skills in front of your friends) while still being feminine. It has a lovely lace/crochet like overlay to keep things interesting.

I paired this look with some teal wedges from Queue shoes. The wedges aren't very high and have a straw looking base so they can be worn casually. The teal adds another burst of colour in an unusual place but doesn't clash with the coral. The heels also give me a bit of much needed height (I'm 5'4") without being too obvious about it!

To finish it off I grabbed this daisy pattern tote from Factorie to carry a book to read, a towel, and some sunblock. The black ties in with the skirt and the pink print surprisingly compliments the bikini. Finally, sunglasses are a must-have in the summer. I absolutely adore this pair that I got from Stradivarius! I often find it difficult to find sunglasses that look good on me, but this retro design is so so cute and suits my face so well.

I kept my hair and makeup natural. I used a bit of spray in my hair and tousled it with my fingers slightly to give a beachy look. I'm lucky that my hair is wavy and has this awesome colour gradient without having to dye it. I call it my natural ombre.
